Preparing for the Judgment of God: Matthew 24

God often directs people to be prepared for what is to come.

Amos 3:7, 8

“For the Lord God does nothing
    without revealing his secret
    to his servants the prophets.
The lion has roared;
    who will not fear?
The Lord God has spoken;
    who can but prophesy?”

Galatians 3:7-9

Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

Revelation 10:7

but that in the days of the trumpet call to be sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God would be fulfilled, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.

Matthew 3:3

For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.’”

Matthew 10:7-10

As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is he of whom it is written,

“‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
            who will prepare your way before you.’

Matthew 24Directions for Christians
“See that no one leads you astray.  Vs. 4Guard yourself from being led astray.
See that you are not alarmed. Vs. 5Do not be alarmed
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. Vs. 9Expect extreme difficulty
And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another.  Vs. 10Know that many will fall away and betray each other.  Don’t fall away and don’t betray others.
the love of many will grow cold.  Vs. 12Don’t allow your love to grow cold.
But the one who endures to the end will be saved. Vs. 13Endure to the end.
 32 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 34 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.  Vs. 32-35Be watchful and understanding of the times.
42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. Vs. 42Stay awake to the signals and purposes of God.
44 Therefore you also must be ready. Vs. 44Be ready.
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time?  Vs. 45Faithful and wise are two essentials.  Those “set over his household” especially pursue being faithful and wise.  Many students of this passage understand this verse to refer to local church leaders who “give God’s household” their spiritual food.

Recommendations

  1. Carefully consider what prophetic voices are saying in this season.
  2. Prepare the way of the Lord in your life by applying the guidance of Matthew 24.
  3. Have conversations with like-minded Christians around the question, “In what ways should we be prepared in this time in God’s prophetic calendar?”
