Lent 2020: A different perspective

Somewhere back in time Christians decided to join Jesus in His forty day and forty night fasting and prayer journey. Undoubtedly, an annual emphasis upon repentance, private prayer, fasting and almsgiving has been good for humankind. I am pursuing Lent 2020 from a different perspective.

Although I need deeper repentance and significant increase in prayer, fasting and almsgiving, my contemplation is anchored in another stream of thought from Matthew 4:1.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

Jesus, fully God and completely human, was “led up by the Spirit.” What might being Spirit led mean for me? Will anyone I interact with today notice “a man being led by the Spirit?”

My plan is to give alms, pray and fast these next several weeks. I need more of all three.

Yet, my deeper desire is to be a man led of the Spirit.
