MCA continued the celebration with more surprises, great joy, presents, and guests. The most fun place in Anchorage this weekend had to be MCA. One of my favorite preachers, Randy Hurst, was the surprise preacher of the day. You must hear his messages at www.pastorkent.me.
Video Greetings from David Sheneman, the Mofleys and written greetings from several others were presented. Following the day services our church family enjoyed one of my favorite celebration meals, turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, and green beans.
The 3 PM celebration service featured family, friends, and special guests. MCA honored Betty and Darrell (Paula’s mom and dad) and Clairena (my mom) with words of appreciation and generous gifts. Kim Carlson then prayed for God’s favor upon our parents. Pastor Fay, Rick Benjamin, and long time friend, Martin Olsen told stories from years gone by. Delores Benjamin and her team led us in singing several of our favorite songs including the hymns “I Surrender All,” and “My Jesus I Love Thee.”
Randy Hurst talked about the vital role of spiritual authority in the health of the Church. He challenged our congregation to be under authority and he did so with power and clarity. So much so that I called our Superintendent and pledged to be under his authority. You must hear Randy’s messages. They may be as perspective changing for you as they are for me.
After the message our family was presented to the Lord in prayer. The MCA Board of Directors led the prayer session and were joined by the tremendous MCA staff. Peach Holtzman, representing the MCA deacons, washed my feet. That was a humbling moment.
Our family were rocked, stunned, surprised, and totally fired up by what happened next. Dale Baker, representing the MCA staff, gave us a gift certificate for an evening at the Alyeska Prince Hotel. This hotel is among our favorite Alaskan get aways. Thinking that was an amazing gift, we were taken aback as Kevin Aleshire and Pastor Fay presented us, on behalf of the MCA family, one month off from work and a 15 day cruise round trip from San Diego to Hawaii!!! What a glorious surprise.
This most memorable day culminated with a dessert social with cup cakes, white chocolate fountain and strawberries, fruit, and a large variety of other desserts.
Our family has never been honored with such thoughtfulness, dignity, graciousness, generosity, and love. We are truly humbled and blessed.
