Hebrew 13:7 gives us our prayer focus on this fabulous Friday. “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”
Much has been made of the sentence, I think penned by Jim Elliott, “only what is done for Christ will last.” Our MCA forerunners poured 100 percent into that which lasts into eternity. They didn’t pursue the momentary at the expense of the eternal. Jesus’ church, especially the MCA branch, was their top priority and received their very best creativity, energy, and labor. What they did for the cause of Christ at MCA was to become part of their long-term legacy.
The primary concept developed in every component of the MCA ministry was faith. Faith was the content of the messages, prayers, conversations, and written communications. Believe, trust, and expect were core values of their lives. What a difference their lives made both in time and eternity.
Today’s prayer focus reminds us to imitate their way of life. See the results of their lives and copy their lifestyles.
“Lord, into our lives add the faith of our MCA fore-runners. Move the hearts of our congregation to live with a deep and abiding faith. May we never forget them, for your word says, “Remember your leaders.” May we never forget their teachings on Biblical concepts, and may we see your miraculous work in our lives as they did in theirs.” AMEN.
