In our reflection time today, we are considering 2 Timothy 2:11-13.
11Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;
12if we endure, we will also reign with him.
If we disown him, he will also disown us;
13if we are faithless, he will remain faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.
Consider the trustworthiness of Holy Scripture. God is totally and completely trustworthy. Everything He is and says is true, faithful, genuine, authentic, accurate, and helpful. He is trustworthy in every way.
Paul reminds Timothy of Jesus’ call to us to take up the cross of self denial and to endure with Him. When we do this we are participating in the Jesus life. There are mind blowingly cool benefits to the Jesus life, 1. We will live with him. 2. We will reign with him.
Yet the option remains to become faithless and avoid the cross and disown Him. Not living the Jesus life has negative side effects….if we disown him, he will also disown us.
God is faithful. He doesn’t do faithful first. He is faithful. His faithful doing flows out of His faithful being. God matches the attitude of my heart. I disown Him, he disowns me. But, He will not match my faithlessness, because He IS faithful.
Great is thy faithfulness!
